Float Away With Exhale Spa
This post "Float Away With Exhale Spa" is in collaboration with Exhale Spa Midtown and Loews Atlanta Hotel. If you mention that I (Bianca Worthy) referred you, I may receive a discount on fitness classes or services, at no obligation to you. All opinions expressed are my own.
The theme with stepping into my thirties has been to be more loyal to myself. We tend to find ourselves giving so much of our energy to work, family, & other distractions, that most of us forget to take care of self first. The holidays can be extremely overwhelming for various reasons, so it was important for me to go into the season with a clear mind and vibrant skin that glowed beneath the twinkling lights and mistletoe.
My first introduction to Exhale Spa was when they won “Best Facial” by Allure Magazine. Allure was my bible in high school for beauty trends and reviews. When I went on to Georgia State University, I would always read their lists hoping that Atlanta businesses would be featured for me to try. When the Loews Atlanta Hotel opened in 2010, I knew that I needed to try Exhale Spa one day. Ironically I met a lovely couple at the Miracle Two pop up that couldn’t stop raving about how much they loved Exhale Spa’s fitness classes, so it was once again on my radar of spas to try in Atlanta.
I WILL AGE GRACEFULLY
Now that I’m 30, I hold my breath almost every day waiting for something to visibly show that I’m aging. It’s scary, but I will not give in to ageism. Ageism is BS, and 30 is not old. I look at older women like Wendy Williams (I’m a HUGE fan), Angela Bassett, Christie Brinkley, Iris Apfel, and Jane Fonda in awe and adoration of how they have kept it juicy in their prime. No, your twenties are not your prime darling. The best is yet to come!
I “staycationed” for a night at the illustrious Loews Atlanta Hotel, so I had to check out Exhale Spa that’s housed on the 7th floor of the hotel during my stray. Since my “staycation” was all about renewing my beauty routine, I could not wait to experience their award winning True Facial. I’ve always been aware that my skin needs to be protected and kept hydrated in order to preserve the sexy for as long as possible. I moisturize every night from head to toe and apply sunscreen more than any other person of color (poc) that I know. Yes, genetics play a huge part, but I’m a firm believer in preventative measures.
Unfortunately, life tends to take over and my skin had not been feeling as smooth and vibrant as I knew it should. I was headed to Los Angeles soon, so I knew it was the perfect opportunity to get my skin and beauty routine back on track. The ability to create a zenful staycation without ever leaving the hotel was a huge perk. I had to pull myself away from the sweeping views of Peachtree St. from the 24th floor, but my experience at Exhale Spa quickly took my mind and body into an even deeper state of relaxation. I was quickly checked in and whisked off for a quick tour of the fitness center, hammam + sauna, and dressing room. They have warm neck pillows and cucumber water in a darkly lit waiting area to help you unwind before services.
DO NOT WASH YOUR FACE BEFORE A FACIAL
Ashley arrived a few moments later and asked a few standard questions to get a better understanding of my skin care concerns and needs. I expressed that I normally have oily skin in my T-zone, cheeks, and chin areas, however I foolishly washed the makeup off my face beforehand. Of course she noticed that my skin was dry because I didn’t moisturize afterward.
Due to my hyper- and hypopigmentation, Ashley suggested that I add a Z peel to my facial to revitalize my fatigued skin. I was hesitant at first, but I obliged because I knew that my skin had gone neglected for some time now. She completed a few extractions on my nose that felt like a quick pinch before gently berating me a little more about drinking more water. As she gingerly massaged my hands and scalp, Ashley was more than willing to answer any questions I had about the beauty myths and tricks that are trending right now. I’m not one to follow trends just because someone deems it the new thing of the season, especially when it comes to what I put on my skin. The entire experience put me in a complete state of tranquility to float through the rest of my night with ease.
I COULD NOT STOP TOUCHING MY FACE
So of course the true test is how your skin feels hours and days after receiving services. My skin felt like butta. It was vibrant and even my partner could tell a difference in the appearance of my complexion. I don’t use a makeup primer often (I know, bad bad me), but my makeup that night went on so smooth that I didn’t feel the need to use as much. I didn’t put on any moisturizer the next morning after washing my face because, as suspected, my t-zone and cheeks were producing more than enough sebum that I didn’t feel the need to moisturize.
I was committing a cardinal felony by constantly exposing my face to the bacteria on my hands, but I couldn’t stop touching myself! I had never felt my skin feel so smooth, soft, and well moisturized before. Even days after, as long as I cleansed, moisturized, and masked, my skin felt and looked healthy and youthful. I highly recommend seeing Ashley at Exhale Spa every other month or so to keep your skin at its optimum health. Skip that happy hour, cook a few meals at home, and invest in your health. Your mind and body will thank you in the long run.
